An 81-year-old Waukesha woman has been sentenced to one year of probation after prosecutors said she struck a pedestrian with her car in February and left the scene.

The Waukesha County District Attorney's Office originally charged Janet Wolfgram with felony hit-and-run. Court records show that on Oct. 14, she pleaded no contest to a lesser charge of misdemeanor hit-and-run. Waukesha County Judge Scott Wagner handed down the probation sentence.

The case dates to Feb. 8, 2026, when Waukesha police were called to the area of East Avenue and Broadway. According to a criminal complaint, officers arrived and found the victim on the ground, holding his leg.

A witness told police the car that hit the man was a red 2014 Chevrolet Cruz and gave officers the license plate number. Court filings said the plate was registered to Wolfgram. The witness had followed the vehicle until it stopped at a grocery store on Sunset Drive.

Surveillance video described in the complaint showed the victim crossing the intersection with a green light. Wolfgram turned left and struck him without slowing down or swerving, the complaint said. The footage showed the man flip onto the hood of her car and roll over the windshield before landing on the ground. Officers estimated he was thrown 15 to 20 feet from the point of impact.

Officers went to the grocery store and arrived as Wolfgram was getting out of her car. The complaint said they asked whether she knew she had been in an accident. She told them she thought she had hit something but was not sure what.

When officers informed her that she had hit a person, court filings said she became "quite distraught."

Information for this report came from the Waukesha County District Attorney's Office and Wisconsin Circuit Court records.
