A Las Vegas work trip ended in criminal charges for a Kissimmee mother who left her four children without overnight supervision. Irene Miller, 50, was arrested by Osceola County deputies upon her return to Florida.
The incident began on Oct. 21 at 8:30 p.m. when a child called 911 to report that a dumbbell had fallen on the head of her 9-year-old brother. Deputies arrived at the home and found children aged 9, 11, 12, and 14 with no adults present. Fire rescue crews transported the injured boy to Celebration Hospital, where he was treated and released.
Miller had departed Florida on Oct. 18. She told investigators she arranged for a babysitter from Tampa to assist with morning routines but that the sitter was not required to stay overnight. The father of the children agreed to take the four kids to his residence while detectives coordinated the arrest.
Body camera footage from Friday morning shows officers approaching Miller as she exited her plane. They escorted her through the terminal and placed her in handcuffs. She was booked into the Orange County Jail on four counts of child neglect without great bodily harm.
Sheriff Chris Blackmon stated that the office will not tolerate child neglect. He added that cases will be investigated and charges brought against parents not properly supervising their children.
